About the event

“We don’t rise to our values, we fall on our structures.”

This phrase, adapted from the Greek poet Archilochus, describes the goal of this class: to ensure that your toolbox is full of structures to support yourself and your team, centering the values that you hold most dear to your creative practice. Using the Salutogenic Standards as our guide, we will walk through foundational best practices for creative spaces that support mental health and connection, even when telling challenging stories.

Key Takeaways:

  • Definition of care in a creative space
  • Use of a structure to support ethical and compelling stories for creator and consumer, especially for stories that depict potentially traumatic or challenging material
  • Discussion of self-care as an ethical imperative for creative leaders.
  • Assessment and description of one's scope of practice
  • Ability to identify vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout.

NOTE: This workshop is built as the third of our three Core Curriculum offerings. In 2025, these will be offered as a collected series and will no longer be available for individual enrollment -- so if you're seeking to complete your Core Curriculum, now is the time!
